LONA is looking for more volunteers!

Hi! It's Pam, LONA's PR gal!

LONA is actively looking for volunteers to help in various capacities!

I have been maintaining the LONA web presence, and as I just realized, since creating our LONA's facebook page, I haven't been updating this blog site as often. The facebook page has been much easier for me to post items to, so that's where one should look for up-to-the-minute LONA information.

If anyone has the time, and would be willing to transfer all of the facebook posts onto *this* website, I would be very grateful! I simply don't have the time to do it right now!

Also, I would appreciate feedback regarding what interests and info you are looking for, and that way, I can keep that in mind as I come across different items in my newsfeed. I'm trying to cover many age ranges, and lifestyles, yet I know that I can't cover everyone all at once... but I'm trying!

Thanks for being a part of the Lyell-Otis Neighborhood Association! This truly is ... Where Neighbors Help Neighbors!

SELL-EBRATION 2013

Hi, Everyone!

This is a great time of year to get out and meet our neighbors, while holding a positive event in our area!

I hope everyone will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!

It's always a good idea to find a new home for our unwanted items, as we don't want to see useful things filling our landfill. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is the mantra in our home, and having a fun yard sale is a terrific way to make a few dollars while helping someone discover and repurpose our hidden treasures!

I also hope that by holding our event at the same time as Maplewood's, we can help them to get more people to attend their sales, as well as ours.

Cooperation is a wonderful thing... and no one does it better than Rochester's NW area residents!

Have a great week!
~ Pamela Davis, LONA PR

PS - If you do choose to hold a sale, please feel free to post your street on LONA's facebook page in the comments section of the flyer/picture https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=478504215574168&set=a.237617859662806.55545.227243050700287&type=1&theater .
That way, the buying public will be able to plan their shopping route right to your sale! :)

FYI of FIRE SAFETY

FYI of FIRE SAFETY - Outside Fires - Can you or Can’t you -  Do’s and Don’ts from the Rochester Fire Department:

With the nicer weather many people like to enjoy outside fires, from bonfires and fire pits to cooking over an open flame. Recreational fires should be able to be enjoyed outdoors as long as there is enough space and safety precautions are taken. Rochester does have regulations regarding what and where they are permitted. These include:

· Fires in approved containers (pits, chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, etc.) must be a minimum of 15 feet from any structure (including houses, fences, garages, etc.)

· Outside recreational fires, for which the pile size must be no more than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height, must be a minimum of 25 feet from any structure or any combustible material (anything that can burn)

· Avoid outside fires on dry, windy days to prevent unintended fire spread. Never use gasoline to make a recreational fire.

· Charcoal grills or other open-flame cooking devices may not be operated on balconies or within 10 feet of combustible construction (structural materials that can burn)

· If the fire is causing excessive smoke OR air quality issues that impact your neighbors, you may be asked to extinguish the fire under Rochester City Code, Section 120-164.

Please keep our neighborhood safe and fun for all. Do check the attached from Rochester Fire Chief Salvatore Mitrano.
